Luggage Storage in Munich: Lockers, Apps, Airport, and What to Avoid

The nearest locker is not always the right plan. Start with pickup time, reservation, transport line, and access type.

Munich Ajussi · May 26, 2026 · about 9 minutes
Start here In Munich, luggage storage is a route decision, not a station ranking. Hauptbahnhof, Ostbahnhof, and Pasing are common places to check, but the right location depends on where you will go next, when you need the bag again, and whether you can reserve a safe option.

You arrive before check-in. Your train leaves in the evening. You want to walk through the old town. Or you are going to a concert, football match, trade fair, or day trip and do not want to drag a suitcase through Munich.

The first question is not “which station has lockers?” It is this:

Where will this bag make the least trouble for the rest of my day?

Situation Check first Watch out
You have a hotel Ask the hotel or host. Unmanned stays may not store bags.
East or airport route Ostbahnhof Mobile Locker Limited capacity, one-time opening.
Central station area BagBuddy24 HBF South Check size, price, access time.
Flexible daytime plan Partner storage apps Exact address and pickup time.
Train traveler Hauptbahnhof lockers No reservation, construction, crowds.

01Ask four questions before choosing storage

Check four things before booking or walking to a storage location.

01

Pickup time

Same day, late night, next morning, or several days later?

02

Reservation

Can you reserve it, or do you have to hope a locker is free?

03

Transport line

Is it on your real S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram, or train route?

04

Access type

Unmanned locker, station locker, hotel desk, or staffed partner shop?

If S-Bahn, U-Bahn, MVV zones, or airport routes are still confusing, start with Getting Around Munich by Public Transport before choosing a storage location.

02Choose the storage location by situation

The right storage location changes by situation. A good choice before check-in can be a bad choice after a concert. A useful station for a westbound train can be a detour for an airport route.

Train or ZOB

Hauptbahnhof or BagBuddy24 HBF South

Works only if your departure, hotel, or next transfer is already around the central station area.

East or airport direction

Ostbahnhof

Good when Munich East is already on your S-Bahn route. Do not go there just because it has a reserved locker.

West-side route

Pasing

Useful for west-side hotels or westbound trains. Weak if your day is old town, airport, or Allianz Arena focused.

Late pickup

Confirmed late access only

A good location is useless if you cannot collect the bag after the event.

Next morning

Opening time matters

Not every useful option must be 24/7 if you do not need the bag overnight.

Do not treat any station as automatically safe. Use a station only when it fits the situation and you have a backup.

03Use your hotel first when possible

If you have accommodation in Munich, ask there first. Many hotels and hostels can hold luggage before check-in or after check-out.

This is usually the easiest solution because your bag stays near your bed, not near a random locker. The exception is unmanned accommodation. Apartments, self-check-in rooms, and some budget stays may not offer storage.

If you are still choosing where to stay, the accommodation area also decides where your luggage can wait. See How to Choose Where to Stay in Munich.

04Station lockers are useful only with a backup

Munich has lockers at major transport points, including Hauptbahnhof, Ostbahnhof, Pasing, and the airport. They are worth checking when the station already fits your route.

The weak point is availability. Current official information for Munich Central Station warns that locker availability may be limited because of construction work. Ostbahnhof also had past locker problems reported locally, although later repairs were reported.

Luggage lockers at Munich Hauptbahnhof

DB lockers in the Hauptbahnhof underpass. The coloured doors indicate locker size.

Do not make a tight day depend on a free station locker Station lockers are fine when your plan has room for failure. They are risky when you have a train, concert, flight, or check-in deadline.

05Reserved lockers: Ostbahnhof Mobile Locker and BagBuddy24

Ostbahnhof Mobile Locker

Useful if Munich East fits your route. It is near Platform 5 in the Ostbahnhof underpass, close to the DB Info point and Rischart bakery. It has online reservation and cashless payment.

Ostbahnhof Mobile Locker at München Ost

The Mobile Locker instruction panel at Ostbahnhof. The price board on the right shows rates per 24h and per extra hour across S, M, L, XL, and XXL sizes.

In a reservation test checked on May 26, 2026, an XXL locker from 11 July 2026, 04:00 to 12 July 2026, 05:00 showed 16.50 € for the locker plus a 1.95 € admin cost, total 18.45 €. Treat this as one booking example. Check the final cart price before paying.

One-time opening The Mobile Locker panel states clearly: a locker can only be opened once after payment. Pack what you need for the day before closing it.

BagBuddy24 HBF South

A private smart locker near Munich Central Station South, at Mittererstraße 1. It is useful for central station, ZOB, and late-pickup plans when the south side of Hauptbahnhof fits your route.

The HBF South location is described as 24/7 access, with QR code access and more than 140 lockers. Treat BagBuddy24 as a near-date reservation option, not a months-ahead anchor. For other branches, check the BagBuddy24 Munich locations page before planning.

Locker-based pricing These locker-based options can be useful if several bags fit into one locker. The advantage disappears if the locker is too far from your actual route.

06Partner storage apps: check the exact address

Services such as Bounce, Nannybag Munich, Stasher, Radical Storage Munich, and LuggageHero Munich can be useful when the location matches your route.

These services may use shops, hotels, cafés, lockers, or local businesses. Some locations may be south, east, or north of the old town. A Giesing-area option can be useful if your hotel or U2/S-Bahn route goes that way. It is weak if your whole day is around Hauptbahnhof, Marienplatz, or the old town.

The brand name is not the plan Check the exact address, opening hours, latest pickup time, and whether it is a real locker or a staffed location.
Use provider pages first Multi-location services can show different partner locations depending on date, bag size, and availability. Choose the exact address on the provider page first, then use Google Maps for that address. For Stasher especially, use the homepage or app search because city and date-specific booking links may change.

07Airport and venue storage are special cases

Munich Airport storage can help if the airport is your next real step: an early flight, long layover, or a short city visit before returning to the airport. It is not a good city-centre storage plan if you must travel back only to collect a bag. If you are arriving at Munich Airport first, check Getting from Munich Airport to the City before deciding whether airport storage makes sense.

Allianz Arena has a luggage storage area in front of the south entrances on the esplanade, at 2 € per item, and large suitcases can be stored there too. No reservation is possible. For a concert, event, or football match, solve luggage before arriving at the venue when possible. Venue storage is a backup, not a city luggage plan.

08Situation based choices

Hotel available

Ask the hotel or hostel first

Avoid a separate locker trip unless the accommodation cannot hold your bag.

Before check-in

Use storage on your actual route

Hotel storage, a reserved locker, or a partner location can work. Do not start by hunting station lockers.

Evening departure

Stay close to your departure line

A cheaper storage place is not helpful if it adds a detour with a suitcase.

Late-night pickup

Use confirmed late access

A staffed shop with uncertain closing time is the weak plan.

Next-morning pickup

Check the opening time

A non-24/7 place can still work if it opens before you need the bag.

Concert or event

Store luggage before the venue

Venue storage is a backup, not the normal plan.

09Before you pay

Last check before booking storage

Open the provider page and check the exact address, not only the brand name.

Check the pickup time. For late pickup, make sure access is actually available after your event or train arrival.

Check the route after pickup. A cheap locker is not cheap if it adds one extra transfer with a suitcase.

Check the bag size and access rule. Some lockers are one-time opening, and some partner locations are staffed shops.
