World Cup 2026 Public Viewing in Munich: Where to Watch

June 13, 2026 · Munich Now

World Cup 2026 public viewing in Munich is more spread out than many visitors expect. The big Olympiapark fan zone is not running this year, so the useful choices are beer gardens, event venues, indoor halls, and late-night screening spots.

World Cup 2026 public viewing in Munich looks different this summer because the tournament is hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For Munich viewers, Germany’s group games fall in the evening, but many other matches run deep into the night.

The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19. Around half of the 104 matches kick off after midnight local time in Munich. Germany’s three group-stage games are all in the evening window, and ARD and ZDF are broadcasting them free. MagentaTV holds exclusive rights to the remaining 44 games.

Munich has more than 90 public viewing locations running this summer. The city’s beer gardens, event venues, bars, and squares are the main gathering points. For getting between venues, the Munich public transport guide may help more than trying to cross the city by taxi after a big match.

One thing matters before you choose a venue: do not assume every beer garden will show late matches until the final whistle. Munich’s city authority, the Kreisverwaltungsreferat, approved outdoor screenings at restaurants until 1:00 AM during the World Cup, with noise rules in place throughout. Vuvuzelas, compressed-air horns, megaphones, and amplifiers are banned at all public viewing venues. But each venue still sets its own schedule. For late matches, use a venue that clearly confirms late screening, moves indoors, or operates as a dedicated event space.

City center choices

  • Werksviertel Knödelplatz 5-minute walk from Ostbahnhof (S1–S8, U5, Tram 19). Open daily 17:00, June 11–July 19. Entry free. The largest outdoor World Cup public viewing setup in Munich this summer. A 45-square-meter LED screen broadcasts nearly every match. Knödelplatz operates as an event square rather than a traditional beer garden, which makes it one of the safer outdoor choices for late matches. Food trucks and bars surround the square. Group and VIP area bookings go through Eventfabrik directly.
  • Muffatwerk Short walk from Rosenheimer Platz or Isartor S-Bahn. On the Isar riverbank near Deutsches Museum. A flexible venue rather than a simple outdoor beer garden. Depending on match timing and weather, the setup can use the beer garden, terrace, Muffatcafé, Ampere, or Muffathalle. The full venue is dedicated to the semifinals and final.
  • Augustiner-Keller Arnulfstrasse, about 10 minutes on foot from Hauptbahnhof. Also reachable from Hackerbrücke. Two large LED screens plus additional monitors across the beer garden cover Germany games and top matches. For late matches, confirm with the venue before going. No reservations: first-come, first-served throughout.
  • Löwenbräukeller Directly at U1 Stiglmaierplatz. Screens all three Germany group-stage games, running both the outdoor terrace and the indoor Festsaal. Unlike most venues here, table reservations are available through Snapticket. For Germany games, booking ahead is the more reliable option.

Further out

  • Seehaus in the English Garden Inside the English Garden, by the lake. Germany games and free-TV matches with a kickoff no later than 22:00, on a 3x5m screen. Matches starting after 22:00 are not screened here. The lake setting is the reason to come.
  • Paulaner am Nockherberg Elevated position with a view over the city. Two large outdoor LED screens for Germany games and selected top matches. Part of the viewing area accepts reservations. Also running a “Science meets public viewing” series with TU Munich during the tournament.
  • Gans am Wasser in Westpark Westpark, by the lake. A quieter lakeside option. Shows only Germany’s group-stage games, both semifinals, and the final. Not the right venue for other matches.

For a more flexible approach, Leopoldstrasse in Schwabing has enough cafes and bars screening games that small groups of two to four can usually find a spot without planning ahead, as long as it is not a Germany match day.

Best late-night option in Munich

Late-night World Cup public viewing in Munich needs a different plan. Around half of the 104 matches kick off after midnight CEST. For those games, the safest option is a venue that has publicly confirmed it will show all matches around the clock.

  • Backstage / 11FREUNDE Quartier Reitknechtstraße 6, 80639 München. S-Bahn Hirschgarten (S1–S4, S6–S8), 5 to 6 minutes on foot. About 8 minutes by S-Bahn from Hauptbahnhof. Backstage is a large cultural venue with multiple indoor halls and outdoor space. For the World Cup, the grounds are operating as the 11FREUNDE Quartier and officially showing all 104 matches around the clock, free entry. That makes it especially useful for teams with deep-night Munich kickoffs, including Korea Republic. Reservation tickets with drink vouchers, priority entry, and better view options may be available for bigger matches through the Backstage event page.

A small Munich Ajussi note: Korea Republic is a good example of why this late-night section matters. The remaining group-stage games are deep-night kickoffs in Munich. For Korean fans here, this is the kind of schedule where Backstage makes more sense than hoping a normal beer garden will stay with the match until the end.

Both remaining Korea Republic group games are deep-night kickoffs in Munich. This is why a confirmed 24/7 venue matters more than a pretty beer garden.

Germany match times in Munich

Germany’s group-stage matches at the 2026 World Cup are evening games in Munich, which means normal beer gardens and event venues work well. No deep-night planning is needed for the group stage.

Before you go

  • Timing: For Germany games at city center venues, plan to arrive at least one hour before kickoff, ideally 90 minutes. Most venues are first-come, first-served. Arriving as a group is the expected approach locally.
  • Late matches: Do not assume every beer garden shows late games until the final whistle. For 3:00 or 4:00 AM kickoffs, Backstage / 11FREUNDE Quartier is the strongest confirmed option in Munich because it advertises 24/7 World Cup screening.
  • Reservations: Löwenbräukeller takes table reservations via Snapticket. Paulaner am Nockherberg has a partial reservable section. Backstage may offer reservation tickets with drink vouchers, priority entry, and better view options for bigger matches. For other venues, check the venue page before going.
  • Cash: Bring at least 20 to 30 euros per person. Many outdoor vendors and beer stalls do not accept cards, and card readers can fail under heavy traffic.
  • Cup deposit (Pfand): Outdoor drinks include a 1 to 3 euro deposit on the cup, on top of the drink price. Return the cup where you bought it to get the deposit back in cash.
  • Drinks from outside: Bringing your own food to the open-seating area of a traditional beer garden is allowed. Bringing your own drinks, including water, is not. At pubs, event venues, and enclosed terrace areas, outside food and drinks are usually off limits.
  • Bag size: At larger venues, security may turn away large bags at the entrance. A light crossbody bag or small tote works better for evening matches.
  • Temperature: June and July afternoons can reach 25 to 30°C. Once the sun goes down, temperatures can drop fast. For any match starting after 22:00, bring a layer.
